The first time you open Merlin Guild, you create a master password. This password is the key to everything sensitive the app stores, and it never leaves your computer.
Where to find it
The setup appears automatically the first time you launch Merlin Guild from the Start menu. On later launches you see an unlock screen instead.
How it works
Create your master password
On first run, you choose a master password. The app uses it to protect your wallets and other sensitive data. Pick a strong, unique password and store it somewhere safe.
Understand what it protects
Your wallet secrets are encrypted on your own device. The master password is never saved anywhere, and your private keys are never stored in plain form. A copy of the app’s data on its own is useless to anyone who does not also know your password.
Unlock on each launch
After setup, every launch shows an unlock screen. Enter your master password to open the vault for that session. While unlocked, you can manage wallets and trade normally.
Safety behaviours
- The app locks itself: after a period of inactivity, the session locks and you must enter your master password again.
- No password recovery by us: because the password is never sent anywhere, support cannot reset it for you. Keep it safe.
- Secrets stay local: sensitive data is only readable while the session is unlocked on your device.
Good practices
- Use a long, unique master password and store it in a password manager.
- Lock the app or close it when you step away from your computer.
- Never share your master password; Merlin Guild will never ask for it over chat, email, or DM.
